Writing to be assessed
All Year 3 and Year 5 students from Woy Woy Public School will be doing the Primary Writing Assessment on Tuesday, August 14.
The writing assessment is produced by the School Assessment and Reporting Directorate of the Department of Education and Training.
The program consists of two writing tasks which will be marked against criteria which assess structure, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Students complete a factual writing task and a literacy task in the space of about an hour.
"Writing" in this case is not to be confused with handwriting.
Students are requested to provide their name, gender, date of birth and to state whether they are from a non-English speaking background or are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
This information will be used for assessing and reporting student achievements in writing.
The information is treated confidentially and held securely to ensure that the right to privacy for all students is maintained.
The results of the test will provide information about what a child can do and will indicate where they may need help.
Reports will be sent to the school in term four and will be used to support teaching and learning programs which will improve the literacy achievement of students.
A report will be provided to parents giving the results each child achieved.
