Roosters meet Bunnies

Round 10 of the Central Coast VB rugby league premiership saw the Woy Woy Roosters meet the Umina Bunnies in front of a good Peninsula crowd at Woy Woy Oval on Sunday, July 1.

With the Bunnies clinging grimly to their semi-final aspirations, Tony Clarke's Roosters met a determined Umina side which made them earn the vital competition points to stay at the top of the table.

Hooker Elton Connors was at his best causing the Bunnies defence plenty of headaches, with his interchanging with winger Brent Byrne paying dividends for the team.

Full back Evan Cochrane returned to his best, absorbing pressure from the Bunnies and in turn making many metres from some great kick returns.

Skipper Jason Carpenter continued his solid comeback from injury, scoring a try and getting plenty of field time.

RoostersUnder-17s, after stringing together some solid wins over the past month or so, started well with a good opening try.

However, they could not match the intensity of competition leaders, the Toukley Hawks, eventually going down by 36 points to eight.

Dean McDonald's Reserve Grade side needed a win over the Bunnies to keep their finals campaign going.

In a tight game, half back Jarrod Brennan scooted over late in the game to seal a fine 26 points to 18 victory.
