Pam Ayre retires

Mrs Pam Ayre retired recently, after 25 years as teacher and librarian at Ettalong Public School, and after a teaching career that has spanned over 40 years.

School staff presented Mrs Ayre with a hand-made quilt that depicted many aspects of her teaching and personal life, as a memento of those 25 years at Ettalong and as a sign of the esteem in which she was held.

Every member of the staff contributed to making the quilt over many months.

Principal Bruce Donaldson said Mrs Ayre had always been committed to meeting the needs of Ettalong students and had guided them on a journey of gaining the life-long learning skills of reading, listening and researching.

He said Mrs Ayre was a dedicated teacher who had contributed greatly to Ettalong School and was much loved by the staff, parents and students.

At a farewell in the school library, Mrs Ayre said she has seen many changes over the 40 years, particularly in the field of information technology.

She said she felt privileged to have had the opportunity to touch the lives of so many children, and had "thoroughly enjoyed it all".

Mrs Ayre then presented the students of the school with a "Friendship Seat" as a parting gift and thanked the students, staff, and parents for their good wishes.
