Saving water in child care

Umina Child Care Centre will receive $7811 in funding towards water saving projects at the centre as part of a successful Australian Government Community Water grant.

Member for Robertson Mr Jim Lloyd recently announced successful local recipients of Australian Government Community Water Grants.

A total of $385,170 had been granted to community groups and organisations in the electorate of Robertson and the announcement, to coincide with World Water Day, highlighted just some of the activities that were being undertaken to conserve and improve the health of local water.

The Umina Child Care Centre funding "will improve water efficiency at Umina Child Care Centre by implementing a range of water saving initiatives, including installation of dual flush toilets".

A tank will be installed to collect rainwater to flush the toilets.

The work is expected to save 286,000 litres of water each year.

Gosford Council's Director of Water and Sewer Mr Rod Williams said: "The staff at the centre, particularly Jenni Wallington, should be congratulated for their enthusiasm and have set a great example for other centres in the area."

Mr Lloyd said: "Here on the Central Coast, water is our most valuable resource and so we need to be more pro-active when it comes to saving and nurturing water."
