Choir presents Easter concert

The Peninsula Choir, under conductor Ivan Kinny, will present an Easter concert program entitled "The Radiance of the Cross".

"It aims to express, in music and literary readings, something of the wide range of thoughts and emotions that the Crucifixion and Resurrection narratives have aroused in great minds," according to publicity officer Ms Kay Williams.

"Notable among new music will be a setting of Jesu, Lamb of God, Redeemer, by William Byrd, the greatest of the English Elizabethan composers.

"There will also be a song by Thomas Campion from the same period, as well as a modern setting of the spiritual Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?

"There will be seasonal favourites and opportunities for audience participation.

"The final chorale from Bach's great cantata Sleepers, Wake will provide a fitting conclusion."

The program will be presented in the Uniting Church, Umina, on Palm Sunday, April 9, and in St Andrew's Anglican Church, Umina, on Good Friday, April 14.

Both churches are on Ocean Beach Rd, and both concerts commence at 5pm.

Admission to the event is free and open to everybody.
