Carnival held at leisure centre

Students from Brisbane Water Secondary College have taken advantage of the facilities at the Peninsula Leisure Centre to hold their annual swimming carnival, according to college principle Mr Pat Lewis.

"This year the two campuses had to hold separate carnivals as the venue is not large enough to hold the large numbers of students who now attend the college," Mr Lewis said.

"Held over two consecutive days, the middle school campus were lucky enough to have the clear sunny day and students took advantage of the conditions.

"All races were strongly contested and a great day was had by all."

Age championships were won by Kate Styles and Jake Raw for the 12 years, Erin McDonald and Tom McParlane for the 13 years and Marissa Moore and Mark Brear for the 14 years age group.

"By contrast, the senior campus carnival was held under threatening skies all day but it was still well contested," Mr Lewis said.

"It was very good to see Years 11 and 12 students entering into the fun of the day and showing great school spirit.

"As well as the main events, novelty events including underwater hockey and water polo were also popular."

Age championships were won by Stacey Markham and Branden Blair for the 15 years, Lisa McNeil and Michael Baker for the 16 years and Kristie Baird, Chris Blair and Chris Bainbridge in the open age group.

"Since the college carnival, a large contingent of students have gone on to compete in the Zone Carnival," Mr Lewis said.

"Of these students, Chris and Branden Blair and Tom McParlane won their age championships and are now set to move on to the Regional Carnival."
