Soccer player is recognised

Umina resident and Mariners player Andre Gumprecht has been recognised in the top six for Player of the Year at a recent soccer awards ceremony held at Darling Harbour.

The A-League ceremony was held on March 13.

Perth's Despotovski received the Johnny Warren Medal, which recognises the player of the year.

Five Mariners players were named in the top 20 including Andre Gumprecht (sixth), Tom Pondeljak (seventh), Dean Heffernan (eighth), Noel Spencer (ninth) and John Hutchinson (17th).

This was a representation only matched by Adelaide United.
