Youth program is inspected

Minister for Police Mr Carl Scully recently visit to the Umina PCYC with Member for Peats Ms Marie Andrews to view the Priority One Youth Program.

"The Priority One Youth Program helps young people involved in crime channel their energies into something more positive," said Mr Scully.

"The Brisbane Water Local Area Command refers troubled youngsters to senior constables at the PCYC, who then mentor them on a one to one basis.

"The youths are also encouraged to take part in group activities such as weekly fishing trips to help improve their self esteem."

Last year Mr Scully authorised a grant of $5500 to the Priority One Youth Program.

"This is a wonderful program that has proactively helped reduce crime by improving the skills, and therefore the prospects, of some good kids who just need some direction in their lives."
