Call to host town criers

Gosford City's official Town Crier, St Huberts Island resident Mr John(?) Clarke, has approached Council to prepare a submission to host the National Town Criers' Championship in 2001.

Council's director of corporate and community services, Mr Chris Gallagher, said the championship could be incorporated into the Australian Springtime Flora Festival at Mt Penang in the centenary of federation year.

Councillor Tony Sansom said Mr Clarke should be formally thanked for the effort he put into attending civic functions as town crier.

"He does so without pay and at his own expense," he said.
