Drivers get free soft drinks

People who drive their friends home from hotels and clubs are being given free soft drinks under a scheme sponsored by Gosford Council and the Brisbane Water Highway Patrol.

"Drinks without Dramas" is a project that targets all drivers and places the responsibility on patrons to act responsibly when they go out for a few drinks.

Under the project, groups of friends nominate a designated driver who is then provided with free soft drinks throughout the night.

Participating Peninsula hotels and clubs include Woy Woy Hotel, Ettalong Beach Hotel and the Ettalong Beach Memorial Club.

One in 11 accidents involve alcohol and a high proportion of alcohol related accidents involve fatalities, according to police.
