Basketball boys make it to round three

The Woy Woy High boys basketball team's winning streak faltered after making it to round three of the state knockout competition.

In round one, the team played Northlakes High School at home and, in the students' words, "annihilated them".

The score was 58 to 48.

In round two, the boys were supposed to play Erina.

However, the Erina team forfeited and Woy Woy won on default.

The third round proved to be Woy Woy's downfall, with losses to Narara Valley and Pittwater High Schools.

The third round was played at Gosford City Sports Stadium. Teams from Narrabeen, North Sydney Boys, Turramurra, St Ives, Mosman, Cherrybrook, Epping, Gorokan, Terrigal, Lisarow and Narara Valley also competed.

A spokesperson from Woy Woy High said the boys put in a gutsy effort.

"Aaron Oberdrf defended well and outclassed with his speed."

"Jason 'Mr Trickstar' Williams showed off his skills and ball control.

"Steven Lloyd showed his ability in all areas and Scott Paull, being the only player with any height, used his height well in defence and tried for those three pointers.

"Brad Watson worked hard, especially in defence, while Reuben Flanagan put his body on the line numerous times and has bruises to prove it.

"Overall, it was simply a great team effort."
