Umina narrowly misses winning Division 4 pennant

Umina Beach Men's Bowling Club's Red and Blue teams have narrowly missed winning the Bowls Central Coast Division 4 Men's Pennant.

Both made it to the semi-finals.

The Red side was defeated by the Ourimbah-Lisarow Magpies.

The Blue side defeated Ettalong in the other semi-final to contest the final against the Magpies on Wednesday, November 29.

"Our boys got out to a great start and were well ahead," said Umina club secretary Mr Peter Springett.

"Warren Brooks' rink was 12-0 up against the strong Magpies rink and Allan Jones' rink was only a couple of shots behind.

"The Magpies didn't panic.

"They just kept plodding away.

"We started to play a few short bowls, which the Magpies took advantage of.

"The rink playing against Warren's rink picked up a three and you could see their confidence lift across both rinks.

"Our boys held in there, but the momentum had shifted and it didn't come back.

"The Magpies finished winning both rinks, 39-29, to take out the Division 4 Pennant.
