Chamber says oyster festival was 'massive success'

The Peninsula Chamber of Commerce has described its 23rd Brisbane Water Oyster Festival, "after a three-year absence due to covid", as a "massive success".

"We were absolutely stunned with the community support for our festival", said Chamber event co-ordinator Ms Debra Wales.

"The Lions Park venue turned out to be a massive success with plenty of room for all the activities and the huge crowd that filled the park and surrounds," she said.

"The beautiful park on the waterfront was a magnificent setting for the food and wine festival and tasting the famous Sydney Rock oysters grown locally right here on Central Coast with 3000 dozen consumed in quick time.

"Hawkesbury River Shed and Davo's Seafood didn't let us down."

Ms Wales said: "This is our 23rd year of holding the oyster festival and every year it has grown larger and more successful thanks to support of our local community and all the visitors who come to the event, many for the first time.

"And proving forever popular, 24 contestants lined up for the 'How Many Oysters Can You Eat in 30 Seconds' with the winner consuming 20 oysters".

"The local community should be very proud for supporting this Peninsula event which showcases many local talents."

Peninsula Chamber of Commerce president Mr Matthew Wales was presented with a Central Coast Council grant for the Brisbane Water Oyster Festival by Council general manager Mr David Farmer and Administrator Mr Rik Hart on Tuesday, November 28.
