Unusual hen's eggs found in Woy Woy

Two Woy Woy families have reported unusual hen's eggs in recent weeks.

The first report was of a "triple yolker", bought through a local supermarket.

The chance of a triple-yolk egg being laid is said to be about one in 25 million.

However, egg quality screening processes make it less likely to reach supermarket shelves.

The second report was from a family which bought point-of-lay chickens, one of which started laying "super" eggs.

"The first few eggs were normal then on November 24, she laid an egg weighing 150g, 80mm by 65mm," said owner Ms Jenny Jamieson.

"We were very excited and thought it was just a one off thing.

"Two days later, another egg came weighing 154g followed by another at 164g two days later on November 28.

"When we cracked the first super egg, to our surprise, there was another fully shelled egg inside.

"Both eggs had normal white and yoke."
