Folk club raises $1150 for Ukraine medical help

More than $1150 has been raised for medical help in Ukraine at the most recent concert of the Troubadour Folk Club at the Everglades Country Club on Sunday, November 26.

Audience donations came after a performance of the Jaga Band, described by Troubadour president Mr Michael Fine as performing a "distinctive celebration of traditional songs and dances", inspired from across the Carpathian region, with rich and diverse in influences from Ukraine, Hungary, Moldova and Romania.

"A few bars into their first song, the audience stated clapping in time, egged on by one of the band members," he said.

"The sound of more than 150 sets of hands clapping loudly in a small auditorium is contagious, and from that first moment the band knew they were amongst friends.'

"In recognition of the impact and significance of the war in Ukraine, a request was made for a bucket to be passed through the audience.

"A total of $1150 was collected in cash, which has been donated to the Ukrainian Army Paramedic Team.

"Other folk club members contributed online.

"The Jaga Band members also contributed a substantial part of their performance pay," said Mr Fine.
