Comedy festival draws interest from afar

An article published in the Sydney Morning Herald about the Spike Milligan Comedy Festival has drawn inquiries from many parts of Australia as well as from England and Ireland.

Festival Committee chairman Cr Chris Holstein said that he was amazed at the number of calls that came in.

"We had calls from many Sydney radio stations as well as from Brisbane, Melbourne and Darwin," he said.

"This was a great opportunity to promote Woy Woy and the Festival far and wide.

"We also had calls from BBC Television, Radio 5 in Britain and from radio stations in Belfast and Dublin.

"One radio commentator in Ireland said that he didn't know that Woy Woy was a real place.

"'I thought it was made up like Puckoon,' he said".

"Today we have arranged for festival committee members, including Spike's brother, Des Milligan, to be interviewed by Ms Kathy Marks, the Australasian correspondent for the British newspaper, The Independent," Cr Holstein said.

The festival will be held on the Peninsula in October.
