Two compete in Greece

Woy Woy's Amanda Morrison and Paul Mason competed in the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) 13th Senior World Taekwon-Do Championships held in Thessaloniki, Greece, from June 11 to 15.

Amanda competed in two individual events and three team events and Paul competed in two team events.

With over 70 countries, there were near 800 competitors with Australia coming home with six silver and two bronze medals.

The Australian women's power breaking team, which included Amanda, won silver after a close tie-breaker with the top-seeded Korean team.

After being the only two countries to break all boards, it came down to a break off for first and second place, the Koreans won by a single board.

This is the first time Australia has had a female team compete in an ITF championship and they exceeded expectations.

Amanda said she was excited about being picked for the team but to come back with a medal was a dream come true.

Paul was a part of the men's team who competed in the power breaking and sparring.

They didn't make it into the second round of breaking but did better in the sparring.

Paul fought well and drew in his first round against Scotland.

The team made it through three rounds, but were beaten by Russia in the quarter finals, one off getting a bronze medal.

Australia has won a bid to host the 14th ITF Senior World Taekwon-Do Championships which will be held in Caloundra, Queensland, in 2005.
