Men's bowls in full swing

The Everglades men's bowls championships are in full swing and some games have been completed.

Publicity officer Barry O'Connor said: "The final of the Major Singles saw a thrilling game of the highest calibre.

"The scores were neck and neck until the pressure from Les Morrison became too great and Ted Hewson finally succumbed 31 - 20.

"The final score was not a true indication of the game.

"The tightness of the bowls ensured that either player needed a shot within six inches (15cm) of the jack to score a point."

Other Championships are underway with preliminary games being played in the Fours and Minor Singles.

Close games have been the order of the day with many games being won by the odd shot.

Friday and Saturday of the Easter Carnival were washed out.

However after a gloomy start to the day the Sunday got underway on slow but true greens.

The games were fiercely contested with the eventual winner being Blake Butler and Brendan Knight from Ettalong wining on a countback.

The Monday Open Pairs saw a big field on the greens with the eventual winners being Ruby Leon and Sue O'Connor.

The major tournament for the year is coming.

The Frank Kemp Triples is to be played on July 3 and 4.
