Voice over Internet discussed

A presentation on "Voice over Internet Protocol" was made at a recent evening meeting of the local Peninsula-based technology group "ConnectIT", attended by about 30 listeners.

The presentation took place in the ConnectIT rooms located on the beautiful Koolewong waterfront and allowed attendees the opportunity to have dinner after the event at The Boathouse restaurant.

Technology group ConnectIT, outlined the progress the group has made over the last 18 months with seven successful relocations of businesses to the Mt Penang IT site.

IT jobs were also being displayed on the group website http://www. connectit.org.au.

CCTS business development manager Mr David Lyons presented a quick overview of the issues and technologies being delivered from the converging of voice and data networks.

Significant cost savings may be achievable for business with branch offices due to being able route calls across different networks according to the presentation.

Telstra Countrywide communications consultant Mr Robert Borg presented some information on the growth and direction of voice and data traffic.

Security concerns that the convergence of voice and data may activate were also discussed.

Robert also advised that a Telstra office would be opening in Gosford.
