Local IOOF lodge closes

A local lodge of the IOOF, "Rebekah No 96", has decided to discontinue its fundraising efforts.

As a parting gesture, the organisation has dispersed its funds to The Web Youth service, the PCYC and Woy Woy Hospital Auxiliary.

The members will also be holding a combined garage sale in conjunction with Barnados Foster Care support group on Saturday, May 31, from 9am

"The last stop spot" will be held in Village Hall, Springfield Ave, Ettalong

A representative for the IOOF lodge, Mrs Marge Cleere, said that the Barnados Foster Care group was chosen because during its time one of the group's special interests were Christmas trees for disadvantaged children.

A sausage sizzle will be provided for members of the public as they rummage through the trash and treasures looking for bargains on the day.

There will also be give-aways for organisations that may require older style china for catering purposes or canteens.

The PCYC has also volunteered to transport a local group of members, some very frail, to visit their past secretary Sr Helen Mortimer, 90, in her nursing home.

"She worked tirelessly for many years, but felt it was time for someone else to take the reigns," Mrs Cleere said.

"But she still keeps a watchful eye on proceedings."

Donations of saleable items can be collected by phoning the IOOF on 4342 5107 or the Barnados Foster Care Support Group on 4342 5350.
