Aboriginal performer at school

St John the Baptist Catholic School at Woy Woy recently had a visit from Aboriginal performer Phil Geia.

Phil gave a show entitled "An Indigenous Rap", which included audience participation with students from kinder to year 6.

One review stated: "Phil Geia is one of Australia's foremost and most acclaimed Aboriginal contemporary dancers.

"He has been a principal dancer and choreographer in many well-known companies. "He has won awards for both traditional and rap dancing.

"The performance An Indigenous Rap combines traditional and modern dance, didgeridoo playing and stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

"Phil is from Yarrabah near Cairns.

"His presentation is entertaining as well as most informative and his many years of experience of performing to school children makes him a great communicator.

"Children are thrilled by his unusual dance skills and are eager to participate."
