Native plant list released

The National Parks and Wildlife Service has released a list of plant species which are native to the Peninsula.

The service's scientific committee "found that the Umina Coastal Sandplain Woodland is the name given to the plant community recorded on coastal sands on the Woy Woy Peninsula ... characterised by the following species".

"In view of the small size of existing remnants, and the threat of further disturbance, the scientific committee is of the opinion that Umina Coastal Sandplain Woodland in the Sydney Basin Bioregion is likely to become extinct in nature unless factors threatening its survival or evolutionary development cease to operate, and that listing as an endangered ecological community is warranted."
