Students weather storm

Woy Woy Public School Year 5 students weathered a "ferocious storm" storm during a camp at Patonga early this month.

Principal Mr Warwick Hannon said the storm flattened the students' tents and soaked the majority of their equipment.

"Our students were indeed very fortunate that they were under the supervision of four exceptionally well-organised teachers, Mr Smith, Mrs Rayner, Mr Dover and Mr Schmitzer. They calmly managed the situation, which had the potential to be extremely serious," he said.

"All students were ushered to the amenities block and kept calm and reassured by the teachers.

"Police and council employees also contributed to control the situation.

"All students were transported home by 8pm.

"During the entire scenario the students' welfare was the number one priority."

Mr Hannon congratulated teachers who volunteered for the camping events which were for the students' benefit.
