Heather was guest

Heather McKenzie was the guest speaker at Woy Woy Older Women's Network's series on "Living Skills for Older Women" held in November.

"Heather is a dedicated community worker who is a living legend on the Peninsula not only for her work for the South Woy Woy Progress Association, but also for her help for people with disabilities, particularly for those with vision impairment," said convenor Enid Harrison.

"Heather produced many brochures and material for us in regard to non-government organisations which work with the frail aged and older people with disabilities," she said.

"We were pleased to hear that some buses have mobile steps to enable disabled people to access them, and that new train timetables indicate which rail stations have lifts and ramps.

"We saw the Mobility Chart produced by Gosford Council, and learned that the Council employs a Disability Officer who receives applications for improved access (e.g. how to get on a ferry in comfort).

"She advised that the Woy Woy Neighborhood Service provides assistance with laundry and for shopping.

"Heather showed us a pillow which improves comfort for those travelling by plane."
