Brenda wins sports medal

Brenda Smith of Woy Woy Bowling Club has been awarded the Australian Sports Medal 2000.

Brenda came to Woy Woy in 1983, transferring from Vaucluse Bowling Club.

She was champion of champions for the Central Coast district in 1985 and 1986 and grand slam winner of the Woy Woy Club Championships.

She has held many positions on committees within the club, ranging from secretary for six years, chairperson for the match committee, vice-president of the club to president from 1994 to 1997.

She holds certificates in coaching and umpiring, the position of club delegate and the position of entertaining and publicity officer of the women's club.

The patron of the women's club, Dorothy Burford, said she was proud to have nominated Brenda for the award.

"Brenda is a very dedicated and tireless worker and a very worthy recipient," she said.

President Glen Smith (no relation to Brenda) and his committee concluded the year with presentation day being held on December 3.

Consistency singles championship finished with Lionel Ackling defeating Phil Dunn in the final.
