Rugby continues behind the scenes

While rugby is undergoing its summer hiatus, many behind-the-scenes events are still taking place at the Woy Woy Club.

At the recent annual general meeting, a new committee was elected.

Also a number of coaching positions were settled upon.

Mr John Kenny was elected president, while Mr John Stokie was elected as first grade coach.

Both these men have vast rugby experience and have the respect of all associated with Woy Woy Rugby.

Several working bees have been undertaken to spruce up the clubhouse and the effort put in by the volunteers is starting to show.

The clubhouse will be the scene for a number of social functions next season.

A recent meeting was held with Cr Lynne Bockholt to discuss possible finance to refurbish the interior of the clubhouse.

The results of the meeting were promising with Cr Bockholt being impressed with the current rate of improvement.

While next season is still a long way off, the club is on the lookout for players to strengthen the club.

Players for both the junior and senior grades are welcome.

As usual the senior teams will range from under-19s to first graders and juniors from the under-11s to under-17s.

Senior players should telephone John Stokie on 4341 5181 for more information.

Last year the club fielded two junior teams, the under-11s and under-17s with mixed results.

The under-11s won the grand final, while the under-17s, despite an abundance of talent, failed to produce the goods on the field.

With the wealth of coaching skills available this year, the junior teams will not be lacking in the basic fundamentals of the game.

They should be a major force.

To any young people looking to play Rugby or want to get physically fit while having heaps of fun, there is always the opportunity of playing with the Woy Woy Lions.

For junior player and coaching enquiries please contact Ray Gorrel on 4342 5358.
