Mixed pairs ends program
The Everglades Bowling Club's mixed pairs was played on a heavy green in overcast conditions recently with the winners Dot Porter and Ray Mason successful over Gwen Hewson and Ted Hewson.
This match has concluded the championship program for the year and the results prove the standard of bowls in the club.
Officials from both the men's and ladies' clubs organised a drive for new members at Deepwater Plaza recently and the results were pleasing.
Many fresh enquiries were received and handled in a professional manner by the enthusiastic officials.
The drive was consistent with the recent advertising program introduced by the Royal NSWBA in conjunction with the Central Coast DBA.
A spokesperson said the results would reward both the men's and ladies' clubs and bowls generally.
Everglades will purchase a bowls aid which the club coaches will use to assist bowlers who have trouble bending.
Club coaching chairman, Sid Smith, said the cost to the club was negligible when weighed against the benefit to retain the membership of some who might otherwise have decided the game was getting too difficult.
Club junior bowls coaching coordinator, Mr Ron Edwards, has announced the selection of Sharon and Kirsty Harper to State junior level with three others joining them to represent the Central Coast zone.
Ron said this was truly a great result for Everglades and rewarding to the junior bowls program and for those involved.
The annual presentation day held on December 9 started with a morning game of bowls followed by lunch and the presentation of trophies.
Members of the ladies' club and some volunteers joined country club president, Mr Brian Crawley, as visitors for the occasion.
All were warmly welcomed by president, Mr Kevin Phelps.
All trophy winners received appropriate acknowledgement, none more enthusiastic than that given to Irno Honyi who won his first championship prize, the Snaggers Cup for 2000.
