Nothing happens on 'principal route'
R Fountain of Tascott (Express, November 17) is quite right.
Nothing has happened resulting from the May 1999 RTA Principal Route Study of Brisbane Water Drive.
This road is classified as a Main Road, and is RTA-funded.
The Koolewong and Point Clare-Tascott Progress Association (KPCTPA) hosted residents and users at the Point Clare Community Hall to identify priorities, which led to specific recommendations from the RTA.
Included were improvements at a number of intersections: Couche Cres, Koolewong, Penang St and Collard Rd at Point Clare, and at the Pacific Highway at West Gosford.
There are no footpaths on either side of Brisbane Water Drive between Matthews Pde and Scott St, Point Clare.
Residents just take their chances with increasing traffic flows while walking to and from the Point Clare railway station, Point Clare shopping centre and the public school.
For the progress association, two years have gone by since members resolved to take the initiative.
We took our concerns direct to the RTA in Newcastle and the Minister for Transport, and have followed-up twice with the Member for Peats, Ms Marie Andrews.
Local residents and all users of this main road deserve at least a report back on planning and funding by senior officers of the RTA or the Minister of Transport.
