Variety night hits 10 years
Woy Woy High Schools annual Variety Night extravaganza was held on September 5 and 6.
The program was a mix of music, drama and dance.
This year, the show included performers from local primary schools, including a choir of over 60 students.
"It is now 10 years since Ms Herdman, Ms Henman, Ms Victoria Nielsen, and Mr Tony Sullivan came to me and requested that they be allowed to hold a Variety Night," said principal Ms Carolyn Carter.
"I said 'Just do it' and thats what they did.
"It was a great start for a great performing arts project"
Many hundreds of students have participated in the Variety Nights over the last 10 years.
"We started with those students who were a part of our elective classes in the performing arts, and some teachers were used to pad out the show," said Ms Carter.
"As the years progressed, more and more talented students came forward and auditions had to be held."
In its third year, the Variety Night almost folded when the hall burnt down a few weeks from the performance dates.
"But thanks to the campaigning talents of Ms Jodie Knight, we were able to use the Ettalong Beach War Memorial Club, and the show went on."
Ms Carter said the variety nights showcased the talent in the community.
"It showcases the talent of our staff," she said.
"It provides opportunities for our students to show their talents in all aspects associated with theatre and live entertainment, dancing, acting, singing, playing musical instruments, sound and lighting, stage management, theatre management and teamwork.
"It is a living, breathing example of our performing arts program at Woy Woy High School.
"Variety Night is never static.
"We are always looking for ways to bring others in to enjoy our facilities and the exhilarating experience of live performing," said Ms Carter.
