Leading folk music duo visits

The folk music duo "Us Not Them" will visit the Peninsula in early May to facilitate a workshop in arranging traditional music for present day performance.

Us Not Them will hold their workshop at the Masonic Hall, Woy Woy, on May 9, as special guests of The Troubadour Folk Club.

The duo, Chloe and Jason Roweth, specialises in combining strong original songs and contemporary comment with old style ballads and thoughtful arrangements of lesser-known collected Australian material.

Using vocals, guitar and mandolin, their striking, distinctly-Australian mix of folk with older country/blues is dynamic and captivating, said folk club treasurer Marilyn Stephenson.

"I am delighted that Us Not Them has agreed to come to the Peninsula to perform and hold their workshop," she said.

"Their like has not been seen here before and to get the workshop as well as the performance is really special."

The evening will start at 7.30pm with performances from local folk club members, followed by a performance by Us Not Them.

The "From Tradition to the Future" workshop will take place after supper and a cover charge of $5 applies for the evening.

Us Not Them has performed at major folk music festivals at Woodford, Port Fairy, Major's Creek, Jamberoo, Gulgong, the National Folk Festival in Canberra and at St Albans.

The duo has produced three CDs, as well as performing and recording with several other bands including Jindi and Wongawilli.
