'Drug-proof' courses set to start

A new series of "How to Drug Proof Your Kids" courses is set to start in the coming school term.

The courses are run on the Peninsula, with parents attending from as far as the North and East Gosford areas.

To date, 140 parents whose children range from being toddlers to adults, have completed the course.

The course is one of education, prevention and intervention, and is designed specifically for parents rather than their children, according to organiser Mr John McCaskie.

"The program was developed by Focus on the Family and is being run Australian states. It seeks to equip parents with the confidence and knowledge to help steer their children away from drugs," he said.

Peninsula Christian Life Centre runs the courses with support from Gosford Council, Ettalong Beach Club and the Central Coast Law Society.

This allows a reduced rate of $15 per person for the six-week course.

Child minding is free of charge and the new courses start on Tuesday, May 16, 7.30pm to 9.30pm or Wednesday, May 17, 9.30am to 11.30am.

To register, or for further information, phone John McCaskie on 4344 2509.
