Petitioners voice concern

Council has received four petitions with 1045 signatures on matters pertaining to the Peninsula.

Concerns have been voiced by 454 residents from Empire Bay and surrounding suburbs over a proposed residential flat building in Rickard Rd.

The petitioners said that, as a community, they were not consulted and were worried that a large development would be detrimental to the existing village atmosphere.

A total of 373 residents from Umina and other parts of the Peninsula said they were in support of a home-based fruit and vegetable store, which was run from Ocean Beach Rd. Council officers have since closed down the business.

The acquisition of the grassed foreshore reserve area south of the toilet block has been opposed by 141 Ettalong residents.

Cr Bockholt said the matter would be coming back to Council in about a fortnight.

A development application for a business near Trafalgar Ave has drawn objections from 77 residents and shopkeepers at Umina.

The petitioners said the laneway between Trafalgar Ave and Norman St was too narrow and would be unsuitable to take the extra traffic that would be generated by the business.

The petitioners requested Council reject the application.
