Rebuilding program starts

Umina Beach Bowling Club is undertaking a multi million dollar rebuilding program.

The clubs' Secretary-Manager Mr. Noel Pate said: "The club is embarking on a change of image.

"The construction of new premises on the present site will provide something new and exiting for members and guests of the club."

The club has had architects design features to meet its entertainment needs.

The planned developments will be staged over several phases to minimise disruption to members.

The first phase in the club's expansion will be an internal refurbishment and modernisation.

Plans to construct a multi level club with ocean and district views from its top floor have been approved by Gosford Council.

Construction started on Monday, March 13, and is expected to be finished by August.

Umina Beach Bowling Club chairman Mr Don Jolly said: "The board of directors are excited about the new plans not only for the club members but also because the local community will benefit".

Don said the club had always taken a responsible approach to community needs and spent over $50,000 a year to maintain local sports like soccer, cricket, rugby league and the Police Citizens Youth Club.

The new facilities will include a dining room as well as an "intimate cafe". There will be several lounge areas and a room with on-line interactive entertainment.

The club will also have an innovative sports bar.

The plans include a 130 seat function room.
