How council works
Ordinary meetings of Gosford Council are open to the public and are generally held the first, second and fourth Tuesday of each month starting at 6.30pm at Council Chambers in Mann St Gosford,.
Gosford Council has 10 councillors who are elected by residents every four years and one of those councillors is elected mayor by the other councillors.
Councils general manager is appointed as the chief executive officer responsible for day-to-day council operationl.
The general manager oversees the three divisions of Council, which are headed by managers.
The three divisions are corporate and community services, development and the environment, and works.
At each meeting there is an agenda paper which outlines subjects under consideration.
The agenda can be obtained at Council Chambers before the meeting or viewed at libraries from the Thursday before the meeting takes place.
Only items listed on the agenda can be considered at a meeting.
At the meeting, decisions are made by resolutions that are moved and seconded, debated and voted upon by councillors.
Councillors view the agenda before the meeting, giving them time to liaise with officers and the community to help them come to their decisions.
Most items on the agenda have officers' recommendations and, if councillors have no objections to the recommendations, they are passed in one motion at the beginning of the meeting.
Other items are debated to reach a resolution.
Residents who wish to address the council on any agenda item should notify the council's secretariat on 4325 8316.
For various reasons including commercial sensitivity and some internal matters, councillors can decide to close parts of the meeting to the public and media.
