New dictionaries for Woy Woy South
Woy Woy South Public School recently took delivery of 225 new dictionaries and thesauri after receiving funding from the school P&C and the Telstra Kids Foundation.
Deputy principal Ms Jo Booth explained that, as part of her role as literacy co-ordinator, she had discovered the senior years (Years 5 and 6) had been using outdated and inadequate dictionaries that were many years old and there was a clear need for updating stocks.
After approaching the P&C, it was determined there was an avenue to obtain co-funding from the Telstra Kids Foundation.
An application was formulated and submitted which resulted in a grant late last year and, along with funds from the school P&C, contributed towards the $4000 required to ensure sufficient books were acquired to meet the needs of all classes in the senior years.
There are plans to next upgrade the Year 4 dictionaries and hopefully Year 2 sets at a later date.
