Schools join for art project
Local Year 6 and Year 7 students are undertaking a joint art project, which includes a visit to Patonga and an exhibition at Gosford Regional Gallery.
Entitled "Beyond the Frame", the project is designed to create links between Brisbane Water Secondary College, Umina Campus, and its feeder primary schools - Umina Primary, Woy Woy South Primary and Kariong Primary.
It involves a joint excursion between Years 6 and 7 to a Patonga site to collect visual information and record impressions of the landscape informed by guides experienced in the environment, indigenous culture and visual art.
Gosford Regional Gallery's education officer Ms Jodi Paulden said that the visual art guide told students about the role of the artist and how to view the landscape.
The indigenous culture guide informed students of the significance of the landscape for indigenous culture.
While on site, students will take notes and make sketches in their project diaries.
Back at school, the students will create their artworks with reference to their diaries and with assistance from their teacher and a local visual artist.
The curator of the Gosford Regional Gallery will select from these works for the Beyond the Frame exhibition that will feature at the Gallery from July 29 to August 12.
