Rotary donates to surf club
Woy Woy Rotary Club has donated $2500 to the Umina Ocean Beach Surf Lifesaving Club after a series of break-ins and incidents of vandalism at the club.
Rotary raised the money together with other service clubs on the Peninsula at a special Australiana night held at the Umina Bowling Club on January 30 to celebrate Australia Day.
Woy Woy Rotary president Mr Keith Andrews said his club felt obliged to lend a hand when it heard about the vandalism.
"Woy Woy Rotary was instrumental in financing the building of the surf club and when we found out theyd lost emergency equipment and the building had been damaged we felt we had get behind them straight away," Mr Andrews said.
With the help of Umina Rotary, Umina-Ettalong Lions, the Woy Woy Club was able to present a cheque for $2500 to surf club president Brian Paull at its Tuesday night meeting on February 27.
Mr Paull expressed his thanks and acknowledged the long-standing relationship between the two clubs.
"Were a community organisation and because of the bonds between our two clubs, we feel as if our club is your club and youre always welcome to use our facilities whenever you like," Mr Paull said, accepting the cheque.
Woy Woy Rotarys next project is a time capsule for local families to be established on the corner of McMasters and Ocean Beach Rds.
