Parliament hears of PCYC

The Member for Peats, Ms Marie Andrews, has mentioned the opening of the Police and Community Youth Club at Umina Beach in State Parliament.

In her first speech to Parliament for the year, Ms Andrews spoke of the hard work and dedication to local young people by club manager Tony Johnson and youth program co-ordinator Senior Constable Paul Hanna.

"These two young men have been working in the Woy Woy Peninsula area for two years, and in that time they have built up a rapport with young people. They have won the respect of the wider community," Ms Andrews told Parliament.

She said that, while awaiting the building of the new club, Tony Johnson and Senior Constable Hanna had been running programs for "youth at risk" with great success.

This had been achieved by working in partnership with a number of State Government agencies, including the New South Wales Police Service, Departments of Education and Training, Juvenile Justice, Sport and Recreation as well as Gosford City Council and the local community.

Also given a special mention were:

Mayor Chris Holstein and all councillors, together with council officers who were involved in the project. Gosford Council has spent $1.35 million on the club.

Sargeant Steve Lawley, PCYC club president and manager of Woy Woy Police Station, for his support.

Gwen Watkins – PCYC steering committee member, who was MC at the official opening on February 3.
