Clubs renew sponsorship link

Ettalong Beach War Memorial Club has renewed its sponsorship with Umina Surf Life Saving Club, with the club now in possession of a new water safety craft.

The $25 000 sponsorship "represents a solid commitment not only to water safety in the area, but to the education and promotion of sporting excellence," according to Ettalong Beach Club chairman, Mr John Houtman.

"Our club has always felt a responsibility not only to the residents of the Peninsula, but also to the significant number of tourists who enjoy our beaches each year."

Mr Houtman said he was pleased the Memorial Club was in a position to support the surf club to such an extent.

"We certainly view this as an investment in our region rather than a gift."

In accepting the cheque, surf club president Mr Brian Paull, said: "Our club has its own five-year plan for the Peninsula.

"It incorporates the provision of an aquatic rescue service that starts at Ettalong Beach Club, covers Little Box Head, extends to Umina Beach including the caravan park and the Cove and finishes at Pearl Beach."

Mr Paull said the contribution from the Memorial Club would allow the surf club to continue achieving its goals, particularly over the summer months as the influx of visitors to the beach continually grows.
