Trip to Noumea

Umina High School’s first trip to Noumea in New Caledonia took place last December.

The group consisted of 12 students - Clare West, Jacqui Miller, Amy Birrell, Annabelle Jones, James Hanks, Craig Matthews, Jeff Kelly, Alisha Smith, Elisha Lowe, Jess Moody, Jemima Hogan and Lyn Blundell - a parent and two teachers.

New Caledonia is Australia's closest French-speaking neighbour, and is a 2.5 hour flight from Sydney.

The trip gave the students the opportunity to listen and practice French in everyday situations with the help of some lessons.

The students found time for fun, sightseeing, swimming and sunbaking.

Activities included snorkelling at Amedee Island, taking a glass-bottom boat to Duck Island, and visiting natural springs on Mont D’or mountain.
