Everglades men's bowls

The Everglades Men's Bowls Club fours championship has been concluded for another year with Ross Hurley, John Gibbon, Laurie Powell and Peter Gaffel successful over Brian Selwood, Bill Thomson, Wal Gerrard and Bruce Harper.

The club pairs championship is also underway with nominations for triples and minor singles already closed.

The committee has developed an interesting Easter program following a survey of members which was conducted recently.

The program in brief is:

Good Friday, White top mufti pairs - Men, ladies and mixed. Open draw 1pm.

Easter Saturday, Men's jackpot triples. Starts 1pm.

Easter Sunday, Mixed triples open draw. Starts 1pm. $300 prize money.

Easter Monday, Versatility fours, three games start 9am. $600 prize money.

President Kevin Phelps said he would be delighted to welcome visiting bowlers.

Anyone wanting a game should call the club or check the board in the clubhouse.

The Frank Kemp Memorial Triples will be played over three days from July 4 to 6 with two games of 21 ends scheduled for each day.

Entry is $60 per team and a barbecue lunch will be provided each day.

Speaking at a meeting of pennant players recently, Mr Phelps said he wished all four grades every success in this coming season and hoped their efforts would be rewarded with a flag.

Oppressive heat and humidity took their toll on some players, although the interest and effort was strong.

Chairman of selectors Stan Martin said it was comforting to have such strength in reserve as and when required.
