Artist of the month: Yvonne Mapstone
Yvonne Mapstone of the Peninsula started performing live at age three, standing on a stool.
From then on she became a dancer, studying classical ballet.
Her first role was at "Her Majesty's Theatre" when she was 17.
She has toured Australia and overseas as a dancer, as well as appearing on TV and in cabarets.
She has also studied, taught and examined dance.
Trips to Europe, especially to Rome awoke her to the beauty of three dimensional art and she began to attend sculpture classes.
She fell in love with the wonder of touch and creation.
"Dance and sculpture are the closest of art forms, each relating to three dimensional composition, space, line and harmony, form and movement," said Yvonne.
Her work has been shown in Avoca Fine Art Gallery on the Central Coast and her pieces are in private collections in Australia and Europe.
She has won awards and has participated in several exhibitions.
Yvonne said that although it is instinctive to take something in your hand and mould it into a shape, sculpture has developed into a rare field of expertise open only to special people.
Peninsula residents who are interested in getting their hands on clay, plaster and stone to create shapes can contact Yvonne on 4342 6824.
