Woy Woy High reviews plans and priorities

Woy Woy High School has started off its new year with a review of its school management plans and priorities, a number of new staff and a re-emphasis on how all concerned can make it a better school.

The school's priorities for the year 2000 are the achievement of seven major outcomes, according to principal Ms Carolyn Carter.

There are that:

Members of the school show respect for each other;

Students bring to every lesson the equipment necessary for full participation;

Students' literacy levels be equal to or better than the population as a whole;

Sstudents actively use a variety of methods to gather information and apply it in a range of leaming situations;

Students demonstrate high expectations of achieving optimum levels of academic performance;

Tteaching/learning programs, teaching practice, assessment and school reports all be outcome based; and;

Woy Woy High School have a positive image in the community.

Students have been asked to focus on three things which, if achieved, will have a great impact on the school.

The first was to remember that they attend school to acquire knowledge and skills.

If each student does this at their best level, then the entire school would receive good results.

The second was the need to respect others.

Working in large groups required consideration of others' needs.

The result would be that everyone would feel comfortable and happy about being there.

The third key factor was appearance.

By everyone wearing the full school uniform to school every day, the students would develop a pride in their appearance and the entire school will look and feel better.

Not only students are being asked to change this year, but teachers as well.

A new approach is needed in teaching, assessing and reporting, and year 11 students need to be made aware of the new HSC format and what this means to them from day one.

Staff changes at the school are: Ms Hills and Ms Englund as new English staff; Ms Pratt replacing Mrs Anderson in Home Economics; Ms Lawler as an addition in Special Education for a new Special Education class.

For Term 1, Mrs Bourke will do STLD and Mr Lynn will move to Acting Head Teacher.
