Beware the money short-changer

A Woy Woy liquor-store owner has reported an incident that took place in his shop where a customer attempted to receive more change than he was entitled to.

In what was no doubt an attempted scam, the customer purchased a low cost item and paid for it with a $100 note.

The shopkeeper gave the correct change to the customer who hid $50 of the change under his foot while the goods were being wrapped and then claimed that he was short-changed.

The shopkeeper did not see the money being hidden but was suspicious and asked the customer to stay where he was while the shopkeeper rang off the till to check the contents against the cash register roll to find out whether there was $50 extra in it.

On hearing this, the customer suddenly found the money under his foot, feigned surprise and left the shop.
