Woy Woy Judo star returns from Japan

Woy Woy Judo Club's Drew Evans has returned to the Peninsula after two weeks intensive training in Japan.

Following the Goodwill Games held in Woy Woy last year, head of the Okayama Judo Federation, Mr Yoichi Ogo, invited the Senior Blue Belt to Japan.

Drew stayed with members' families of the Okayama University team, ranked second in their city, and experienced a very different lifestyle with Judo as the central focus.

A typical day consisted of helping the host family with general household chores and sightseeing before heading off to training every day for two hours.

"Training is vastly different to here in Australia," said Drew.

"It was much more intense with larger facilities and a much greater number of participants.

"I was in awe of the skills of the more senior players."

Drew also cited the picturesque scenery of the Okayama region as a highlight of the stay.

"I was extremely fortunate to be chosen for the trip and look forward to returning with the Club next year," he said.

"I hope that Woy Woy Judo Club will have sufficient facilities for the Okayama Club when they return."

Woy Woy Judo Club has commenced training for the 2000 season on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at the Peninsula Community Centre.
