CWA branch pays tribute to Margaret Olley
The Woy Woy branch of the Country Women's Association has paid tribute to the CWA Woman of Note for the year, Margaret Olley.
Margaret Hannah Olley (24 June 1923 - 26 July 2011) was an Australian painter.
She was born in Lismore, NSW, the eldest of three children of Joseph Olley and Grace.
In 1941, Margaret commenced classes at Brisbane Central Technical College and then moved to Sydney in 1943 to enrol in an Art Diploma course at East Sydney Technical College where she graduated with A-class honours in 1945.
She held over 90 solo exhibitions during her lifetime.
To honour her, the branch held a painting class on Wednesday, July 24, initiated by member Ms Kate Jagger run by local artist Ms Chris Ireland.
Art works were created.
Laughter, fun and a sense of achievement was had by all, with many paintings "going straight to the pool room".
