Aged care residents watch eggs hatch and chicks grow
Local aged care residents have recently witnessed the first two weeks of life of some ducklings and chicks.
Residents of Don Leggett House and Pozieres House at Peninsula Village in Umina watched as a batch of fertilised eggs hatched.
"Residents and staff checked the eggs frequently after they arrived, and were excited to see the chicks hatch within the first couple of days at our home," said Village chief executive Mr Shane Neaves.
"Names were given to each of the hatchlings, as were gentle cuddles - with some residents reminiscing about life living on a farm.
"At the end of their two-week stay, the chickens were rehomed at a staff member's property and the ducks at a local farm."
