Heavy machinery and foam used for tip fire
Heavy machinery, foam and bulk water were used to contain the fire at Woy Woy tip on January 10, Fire and Rescue NSW disclosed last week.
The fire service reported it had received multiple 000 calls to report the fire at the tip on Nagari Rd, Woy Woy.
On route, fire crews noticed thick black smoke issuing and said they called for additional support including a bulk tanker for water supply.
Crews found a large amount of rubbish alight and started using foam to help extinguish the blaze alongside crews from the Rural Fire Service.
They managed to bring the fire under control just after 5pm, with heavy machinery brought in to carry out salvage operations.
The Bays Fire Brigade reported that the fire was its first callout for 2021, and that it was the result of mattresses on fire at the tip.
