No Peninsula Australia Day award winners
No Peninsula resident has been named among the nine Australia Day award winners chosen by Central Coast Council.
The only local recognition was of Patonga fire brigade as one of three brigades that was "highly commended".
However, the citation seemed to fail to recognise the true nature of the brigade.
"The Patonga Beach RFS Brigade is an integral part of the local community, providing peace of mind to surrounding isolated communities," it states.
While Patonga is an isolated community, there are no surrounding isolated communities.
The citation seemed much more appropriate to the Spencer fire brigade, which was also commended.
However, it did state: "The Brigade provides a high level of community-based fire and emergency services to protect the community and the environment, as well as minimise the impact of fire through the highest standards of training, community education, prevention and operational capability.
"Patonga Beach RFS Brigade fought alongside many other volunteer firefighters in last summer's devastating bush fires."
