Man charged with biting police officer
A man has been charged after he was found not wearing a face mask on public transport and biting a transport police officer.
The 43-year-old was on a southbound train between Gosford and Woy Woy on Saturday, January 16, when he was approached by Brisbane Water Police transport officers.
Police alleged he refused to provide identification and became aggressive when they asked for identification and if he had a mask.
It was alleged the man punched a constable before he was wrestled to the floor and bit the constable twice on his stomach area and finger, causing lacerations and bruising.
The man was arrested and removed from the train, but was said to become violent again on the platform, kicking out at police.
He was taken to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with not wearing a fitted face covering in public transport, failing to comply with a direction, resisting an officer in the execution of duty, and assaulting a police officer causing actual bodily harm.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Woy Woy Local Court on Thursday, February 11.
The constable was taken to Gosford Hospital for treatment and was later released.
